There was a period when AMG seemed determined to prove that a perfectly sensible executive saloon could also possess a completely unreasonable engine. The W212 E63 AMG is perhaps one of the finest examples of that philosophy. Underneath the relatively restrained E-Class bodywork sits AMG’s formidable 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8, driving the rear wheels through the seven-speed AMG Speedshift transmission. It makes the E63 an enormously capable long-distance car while retaining the slightly unhinged character that made this generation of AMG so appealing. This 2013 example has covered 98,000 miles and benefits from a full service history, including a substantial service carried out by a local AMG specialist approximately 3,000 miles ago, for which supporting documentation is present. It has also recently passed its MOT with no advisories. Finished in Palladium Silver over a Black Nappa leather interior, it presents in our opinion as a truly gorgeous example. The car remains mechanically standard, with its changes limited largely to cosmetic details including black exterior badging, de-chromed trim, carbon-look mirror caps, a carbon rear spoiler and Brabus-style rear diffuser and exhaust tips. Importantly, the original rear diffuser and exhaust tips remain with the car. With its panoramic roof, Harman Kardon audio, Keyless-Go and trademark AMG cabin, this remains a hugely compelling way of combining genuine everyday usability with serious performance.
